Lol I am sure you guys are sick of my Lost theories by now, but I just have to write them down!

I'm done with my rewatch, and I just watched The Incident part one and two. I was thinking.."Esau", or the guy in the black shirt, is Jacob's nemesis who believes that people are inherently bad and self-destructive. Whereas Jacob believes humans are good and when they do bad stuff they can redeem themselves. Anyway, what if besides Jacob = good and Esau = bad (I know on modern television no one is good or bad, they're all light or dark grays, but let's just roll with this for a second), Jacob = life and Esau = death?

What I'm trying to say is, what if Esau is in charge of the dead people on the island? Like, when people die and their bodies are on the island, he can take their shape. He was able to take Yemi's and Christian's shape because they were both dead and their bodies are on the island. This also explains why The Others cremate their dead on the water and not bury them - they're afraid Esau might take over. It also explains why John's body had to be brought on Ajira 316. Esau needed John's body to be able to take his shape and trick Ben and Richard.

Kinda going off a tangent here, but for a while I thought the Yemi was the Smoke Monster - Eko refuses to confess and Yemi disappears and Smokey pops up, and kills Eko. But if Esau's the one who's behind Yemi and Christian and all those other dead people who are appearing on and off island, and Smokey is an entirely different force, unrelated to either Esau or Jacob? Maybe he really is just a security system, like a dog on a leash - but maybe Esau's pulling that leash? Let's assume for a moment Smokey's just a watchdog, designed to protect the island from people who might hurt it. It judges those on the island if they're worthy of being there. If they're not, he'll kill them. If they are, he lets them live. I'd imagine that Smokey doesn't like Jacob for bringing outsiders to the island. Maybe Smokey and Esau struck up some kind of deal to get in Jacob's way. And if it was Esau and not Jacob in the cabin in the jungle, the ash might've been not to force Jacob to stay in, but to keep Smokey out.
