The Roman Polanski post on ONTD is making me lose faith in humanity. Yes, the guy's been through a lot, and yes, the judge was a media whore, BUT HE CONFESSED TO RAPING A CHILD. HE WAS CONVICTED. HE IS GUILTY. He fled the country before a punishment was handed out. The fact that the victim has moved on, doesn't change the fact that he drugged and raped a child. I realize Rittenband was totally biased, but shit, he could've made appeals and what not. Plus, plea bargaining doesn't mean the judge has to lower the sentence - they've still got the right to punish the convict as they see fit. Polanski should've had manned up.

Those who are saying that he doesn't deserve to get punished because he's been through the Holocaust and lost his wife and unborn child, and that he has never and never will inappropiately touch another child again need to realize that does not change the fact that he is guilty of drugging and raping a 13-year-old. HOW IS THAT EVER OKAY? I respect Polanski a lot as a director, and he has gone through a lot of shit as a child which probably fucked him up, but that is not an excuse for not deserving the punishment you get after RAPING A CHILD. Plenty of people have had a hard life, but that doesn't mean they're not accountable for their actions anymore.

Wait, lemme repeat it one more time. HE DRUGGED AND SODOMIZED A 13-YEAR-OLD. Rape is a heinous crime (jesus christ, I can't believe this needs saying) and just because he was able to evade the law for 30 years, does not mean he should be let off. What a shitty precedent that would set.
